Bellydance for EveryBODY
Join Lucas for a belly dance fusion flow for all genders, ages, and experience levels. Belly dance is a challenging brain teaser that promotes mind-body connection while also being gentle on the joints. This class is an opportunity to drop into the moment while you warm up and wake up your body through dance – giving you an enlivening, joyful way to prepare for other physical activity throughout PlayThink! We’ll stretch, shimmy, and explore step combinations that feel good inside and out.
Middle Eastern Drumming for the Absolute Beginner
Bring your hand drum and learn how to play a selection of accessible Middle Eastern rhythms, no experience necessary! We’ll cover how to create basic sounds on the drum, then progress to understanding and working with classic rhythms. There will also be a brief discussion on how to create a beginner drum solo for dancers and flow artists to groove along with.
Finger Cymbal Progressions for Dancers
Lucas will share his signature method for building improvisational skills when belly dancing with finger cymbals! We’ll cover the concept of progressions – a way to drill longer, connected phrases – and drill together both seated and during our dance. You’ll leave with a handout covering all of the class material to take home and practice on your own.
Intro to Group Improvisational Dance
Belly dance is traditionally performed improvisationally, and that IS possible to do as a group with the right tools! This workshop is suitable for all genders, bodies, and levels of dance experience. We’ll cover concepts and movement vocabulary to get you dancing with your friends quickly and joyfully, including when working with live music.
